“Inger Johanne”

Category: Traditional

Description

I knew a sweet old lady named Inger Johanne. She lived in an apartment at the third floor. She was almost 90 years old, and was not able to walk out of the apartement. She loved the color Pink, and flowers. I always called her “My princess”. The Silk Organza symbolizes the fragility of our friendship. The Silk flowers and the colors symbolizes the flowers I always gave her. She was my truly princess.

After she passed away I made this hat to remind her.

Materials

  • Fur Felt
  • Silk Organza
  • Silk Ribbon (handmade roses)
  • Lace
  • Pearls
  • One Swarovski pearl at the top
  • Millinery Wire
  • Various Ribbons
  • Millinery Grosgrain/Ribbon

Techniques

  • The hat is hand blocked. After it had dried on the hat block, I cut it into a shape of a crown. I used hat stiffener. I also used Millinery Wire in each “crown arm” at each side, to stiff up the hat even more.
  • Inside the hat I used silk organza, and I made handmaded roses of Silk Ribbons.
  • The whole hat is hand made, and except of one French seam in the back of the hat, I only used hand seam.
  • I decorated the hat with pearls, various Ribbons and Lace.
