FANCY HAT

Category: Modern

Description

For this little hat I mainly used untraditional materials (plexiglass, frosted window decoration and metal eyelets), but to avoid the hat not to be too heavy, I also used some traditional materials (sinnamay, silk flowers and ribbon). I Like the idea of mixing new materials and shapes with the traditional. For this hat the idea was to use a traditional shape (top hat) in a totally new way. In my opinion, the result is beautiful!

Materials

  • Plexi (acrylic) Glass
  • Sinamay
  • Swarovski Crystal
  • Silk Flower
  • Silk Ribbon
  • Frosted window decoration (to make the stripes)
  • Metal Eyelets

Techniques

  • I used acrylic glass which I cut up in the right shape (crown). Then I heated it in the oven. I shaped the heated acrylic around a small wooden crown block, to make the top hat shape.
  • The brim is made of sinamay, white at the upper side, and silver glitter at the bottom side.
  • The hat is decorated with Swarovski crystals, silk flowers and ribbons.
  • At the back side of the hat I drilled small holes for the eyelets, and then I threaded silk ribbons through the eyelets.
