Description
What happens when the work of two makers is fused together? This was the question I wanted to explore in this hat which I designed in direct response to silk scarves made by fellow maker, Jane Mitchell. I find Jane’s work so inspiring, her use of colour and composition and wondered how her silk could be given 3D solid millinery form. Jane gave me some of her ‘Bubbles’ fabric and after a period of sampling decided it would love fabulous stretched over the small buckram button placed off centre on a bright green wool button.
These two, separate but ‘fused’ buttons represent the working collaboration between myself and Jane; worlds collide, ideas exchange, and new inspiration come together fuse to create something completely new which would not have otherwise been possible.
