Description

This theme was inspired by the sinamay material. It’s a fused blend of black and white sinamay. The theme is visible in the contrast of hard structural lines and organic materials and movement.

Materials

• Black and White Sinamay Straw
• Black and White stripped feathers
• Wire
• Grosgrain Ribbon

Techniques

• I used flat patterning to create the base for the hat out of sinamay.
• The wire was used in the brim and the crown to provide a rigid structure.
• The feathers were manipulated with heat to flare out at the brim.
