The Gladiator
Category: Traditional
Description
My hat interprets the theme Fusion because I have designed an multifunctional hat which can be worn in at least three different ways that fuses both tradition and modern hat design that’s is different and unique. Using traditional millinery and felting techniques such as hand blocking methods in my removable fascinator. I have tried to bring to life the era of the1930’s glamour which sits well with this design. Recycled materials such as felt, large costume jewellery plus veiling give added effect.
The modernism element is the use of a plain silk baseball cap that is braid with coloured hair. The wearer is sent bang up to date in twentieth century style with the cultural aspect of the silk cap.
The current theme of fusion has been dealt with as I have tried to translate it through out my design and concept.
My inspirational ideas came from women who suffer some kind of hair loss or who have gone through hair changes due to illness which is why I have added the hair braided element to my design. I have called this hat ‘The Gladiator’ because when worn it really helps bring out your inner warrior. I have tried to encapsulate a cap, wig, and fascinator in a fun design that is easy to wear for any occasion . Fusion is created by all these different and combinations.
