Fire and Ice

Category: Modern

Description

My entry is based on the fusion of fire and ice, the Fire melts the gold making it liquid which in turn returns to a solid form when in contact with ice.

Materials

  • 3d printer pen
  • Blue and white plastic
  • Gold spray
  • Millinery wire
  • Comb
  • Thread

Techniques

  • I used a 3D printer pen to draw out the snow flake on a wooden hat block, then drew the blue back on the same block, reversing it in the centre to create the dimple.
  • The concave snowflake allows the hat to be seen through, keeping it light and airy. These were fixed together using the pen.
  • The “fire” was free drawn in 3 layers, sprayed gold and attached using the pen to fuse all the layers.
  • A headband was made from millinery wire and wrapped in ribbon and glued to the reverse with a comb attached.
