“Smolder”

Category: Modern

Description

“Smolder” a hat made from heated and burned plastics takes its form from the fusing and melting of plastics by fire. In California we were beset by horrific wild fires and I hoped to show beauty that can regenerate out of ashes. Flame-like, the red crown encases reflective crumbled satin fabric and the textured bright yellow brim soars upwards.

  • Plastic place mats
  • Buckram
  • Millinery wire
  • Satin fabric
  • Petersham ribbon

Techniques

  • Blow torch and heat gun melted plastic place mats.
