Lisa Bell – Australia

High Wire

Category: Traditional

Description

Wirework has been around in millinery for many years and is not a new concept. But as part of the Fusion theme, I sought to take a traditional technique, morph it into something a little more modern and make it into something truly unique.

The halo-shaped headpiece is still very on trend in our part of the world, so chose that as my shape.

Materials

  • Wire
  • beads
  • feathers & thread
  • Attachment: Comb and elastic

Techniques

  • This headpiece is almost entirely made out of wire.
  • I knitted the wire mesh with a pair of knitting needles to create a great bit of texture and then wired it onto a wire frame.
  • The flowers are made of wire that has been hand shaped with beaded centres.
  • The feathers have been hand cut and wired into shape.
