2018 HATalk Competition Entry

Louise Björnram

Louise Björnram – Sweden

Category: Traditional

Description

When I think fusion, I think of combining materials in a flow without visable edges. I focused on the flow when I made my hat, creating a fusion of three items: a hat, a shawl, and a ring, that creates a flow and moves when used.

Materials

  • Millinery wire
  • Sinamay
  • Silk chiffon
  • Metal ring
  • Pearls
  • Thread

Techniques

  • Blocked the sinamay around a horn shaped hat block.
  • Made a wire base based on the block.
  • Sewed the Sinamay around the wire base.
  • Hemmed the silk chiffon by hand and sewed it on to the hat.
  • Sewed three pearls on the metal ring and fastned it to the silk chiffon.
