“Diffusion”

Category: Traditional

Description

The graphic print (coloured pixels) was my inspiration for this Turban called “Diffusion”. I love the glamorous Hollywood turbans from the movies and this is my first attempt at one. I loved the fabric but when I put the brooch with it I just felt it really FUSED!

Materials

  • Up-cycled fabric from a dress I could not bring my self to through out because I loved the way the pixelated colour blocks diffused to move the colours from yellow to old gold greens and blues.
  • Pendant from an old neck piece which perfectly compliments the colourways in the fabric.
  • Black Dior Net (Paris Net)
  • Bias Binding
  • Thread.

Techniques

  • I blocked the Dior Net on my vintage Balsa head. I then cut to shape and hand stitched the bias binding to finish the edge. I decided not to wire it as I wanted it to be very soft and flexible.
  • As I did not have a large amount of fabric I had to cut it into strips and plan very carefully where to place the fabric by pinning and re-pinning multiple times as there was the very minimum of fabric. Even the sleeves were used.
All the strips were then attached and fold were ironed in place.
  • The brooch was then attached.
