2019 HATalk Competition Entry

Alexandria Stanley-Ahmed

Alexandria Stanley-Ahmed – United Kingdom

Description

I bought a book called the “Oasis of Delight” about the history of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This is what inspired me to create my hat based on Victorian Glass Houses. All the materials I have used balance together on the head at an angle to create my hat. I was motivated to make my own glass and metal frame in admiration of structures in the gardens. The glass itself is suspended in the frame gaps equally by metal wire. Looking closer at the glass there is an evenness to where I have placed the predominately blue and green pieces. The outcome is a hat that works in harmony balanced elegantly atop the head.
