2019 HATalk Competition Entry

Amy Fowler

Amy Fowler – USA

Vortex Orb

Description

My piece is based on the balance of simple geometric shapes, sculpted using the bias of the sinamay to create a unique but elegant and modern head piece. The whole piece is built upon a blocked bright red sinamay sphere. The sphere is wrapped with contrasting triangular and diamond shaped spears of black, navy and white which are sewn with contrasting patterns. An asymmetrically balanced feather tops off the piece, to bring the theme of equilibrium up throughout the design. It is lightweight and balanced so minimal attachment to the head is necessary.
