2019 HATalk Competition Entry

Anel Heyman

Anel Heyman – New Zealand

Equipoise

Description

This headpiece, Equipoise, shows how opposing forces are balanced by means of the contrasting materials and textures used.

The felt feels rough while the plastic is smooth. The felt is thick, solid and heavy while the plastic is thin, perforated and light. The felt is dull and lifeless while the plastic is shiny and comes to life when catching the light. The three wired pieces of plastic is also perfectly composed and floats on top of the hat.

These two fabrics create a variety of opposing forces that work together to create an effective balance that looks clean and sophisticated.
