Description

It is loosely based on the icon for “Ying and Yang” and adapted to form a pattern. Gold and silver being opposites and equals for the decorative finishes with the two small flower likes decorations representing the circles that are normally in the ying and yang icon and are sewed in two small groups, silver with gold centre and gold with silver centre.

Materials

  • Stiffened silver coloured Sinamay
  • Millinery wire
  • Gros grain ribbon
  • Plastic tubing sprayed gold
  • Gold and silvered jewellery findings
  • Invisible sewing thread.

Techniques

  • Hat was blocked in sinamay in the usual way using vegetable gelatine solution as a stiffener on wooden hat block.
  • It was then dried then wired at the brim edge all by by hand and gros grain ribbon band sewn on by hand.
  • Gold sprayed plastic tubing was attached to the rim groove edge and on to the crown for decoration.
  • Silver and Gold jewellery findings were attached with invisible thread for decoration.
