‘Equilibrium is defined as a state of balance or a stable situation where opposing forces cancel each other out’

The towering loops of pale pink and cream sinamay remain upright and proud on the stable base of this hat. Two ‘opposing forces’ balance each other; the upright and the level. Neither one showing dominance over each other which gives a state of equilibrium.

Materials

• Pink sinamay
• Cream sinamay
• Water based Sinamay stiffener

Techniques

• Sinamay base blocked and stiffened with a water based stiffener
• Cream and pink loops of various sizes which were cut, steamed and fashioned around dowelling to create the loops.
• Once dry the Sinamay loops were stiffened with a water based stiffener
