Aeronautical Amethyst

Description

Aeronautical Amethyst was inspired by a child creating a paper aeroplane. This headpiece explores how folding and shaping impacts balance and aerodynamics. Flat planes and angles blend harmoniously with curves. Opposites are brought together to create equilibrium.

Like a paper aeroplane, I started with a simple base: two large and two small triangles. Each triangle comprises both mint green and violet purple sinamay. One large and one small triangle has the violet purple on the outside, and the other two triangles are mint green on the outside.

Using a dolly head, I explored how twisting and folding the triangles affected balance and wearability. The result is a headpiece that’s light and easy to wear that makes a statement. Blended together, the mint green and violet purple calm and soothe the headpiece’s angles.
