Equilibrium
Description
I’ve recently been living in Japan, and was inspired by the iconography and celebration of nature and the elements. The koi I’ve featured – different but the same – creating a ying and yang sense of balance in their movement. They are surrounded by water which naturally attempts to create equilibrium though osmosis. Latterly they are bordered by a representation of the seasons spring and winter, and in turn life and death (cherry blossoms representing new life and hope, and snowflakes representing the ‘petite mort’ nature goes through when frigidity covers the land).
