Fallen Leaves
Description
Inspired by the Constructivism (Rusia 1914), I laser cut a geometric form as an sculpture Frame, with linear joining thread to give the idea of physical equilibrium, holding a series of wooden leaves.
The sculpture stands out as the elements are ordered and converge in the volume, the lines and the colour.
The parts are spread out so that the whole becomes at ease and dynamic situation which gives a kind of static equilibrium.
On the other hand the two sides of the composition, the base and the sculpture, are not the same but appear to have an equal visual weight.
Smaller leaves are balanced by bigger ones and lighter are balanced by darker.
The blue colour of the feathers lights the whole composition
The pleats on the base were made to give a kind of movement as if it was a Kinetic Sculpture about starting to move .
Materials
- Leather
- Buckram
- Lining fabric
- Wire
- Nautical Thread
- Wood
- Feathers and Raquis
- Paint and Varnish
- Leather ribbon
Techniques
- The buckram was shaped on a block and also the leather. The wire was stitched up to the buckram. Then, both were sewed together. Some pleats were made on the leather to give the idea of movement. A leather ribbon, with the same color as the base, was sewed with the lining.
- The leaves were made with a Marqueterie Technique and the Frame as an sculpture, was Laser Cut with holes all around to cross the Nautical Thread.
- Some of the leaves and Raquis were painted with antique powder paint. Others were just varnished.
