The Spinning Ribbon
Description
This hat, balancing on the needletop of its minute support, remains in a state of perfect equilibrium – right until it is disturbed by the slightest change in its environment, such as a gust of hot air or a simple movement of the head.
To maintain its balance, the hat begins to spin, flowing gently around your head, like a silken ribbon of a dancing ballerina.
In a single turn, your look transforms from a dazzling golden crown, reminiscent of the Gibson Girl’s piling, luscious hair, through the retro-futuristic elegance of the ’60s, to the mysterious vamp who opts out of the omnipresent scrutiny of the modern world.
No matter how the ribbon spins and shifts, the hat maintains its equilibrium throughout. Or is it you?
Materials
- Silk
- Gold leaf’ textile
- Cotton wire
- Bondaweb
Techniques
- Paper pattern
- Textiles merged with Bondaweb
- Cotton wire between two layers of textile
- Wire-based textile sculpting
- Two separate construction elements: hair band and ribbon
- Wire hair band sports a sharply-pointed pinnacle; ribbon rests on the pinnacle solely with the force of gravity, without any attachment.
