2019 HATalk Competition Entry

Peggy Rivera

Peggy Rivera – Canada

Lighting Winter’s Shadow

Description

The wearer of this hat must lift head and neck to accommodate a certain amount of weight. This uplift creates a weighted/weightless sense of balance. Materials used dance harmoniously between traditional, natural materials available in my environment and glass mosaic pieces from the human-made world. We live in times where the natural world is becoming overwhelmed by the human made. This hat strives not for a contradiction of the two realities, but for a balance between the two. As well, several species of birds have contributed their left behind feathers for display in the very front of the hat.
