Torrid Ice

Description

With London Hat Week’s 2019 Exhibition theme being World Garden, I wanted to reflect that in my piece. My idea stems from the concept of opposing elements finding balance, creating an equilibrium.

Embracing the beauty of the diverse nature of this world, I let the barren hillsides of the North meet the lush rainforests of the South. I exposed them to the forces of nature, but by letting them be consumed by fire and water only chaos would emerge, hence I turned fire into ashes and water to ice, letting them merge into one sublime piece.

Materials

• Headband base (plastic)
• Sequins
• Fabric
• Spray colour
• Glitter
• Glue
• Glass
• Plastic flowers

Techniques

• Cutting followed by shaping the plastic flowers using a hot air gun
• Application of spray colour followed by glitter highlights
• Glueing using hot glue gun and power epoxy for fine details
• Hand sewing
