- Fractured Ribbon Flowers Project by Catherine Kelly
Description
When making the fractured ribbon flowers, I immediately thought they would look amazing on a swim cap/helmet type of hat. I started researching vintage 1960s swim caps for inspiration for this project. I decided to construct the hat out of flat felt yardage with a silk faille lining so that it would be sturdy enough to handle the weight of the ribbon flowers. I added round, plastic beads to the center of each flower giving it a more 60s vibe and a more polished look. I used two magnetic snaps to fasten the strap underneath the chin and finished it with two covered buttons made with the same flat felt yardage.
