- HATalk Issue 180: Copper Signatures by Deidre Hardin
- HATalk Issue 178: Hat of the Month by Sau Fen Chee
Description
In Issue 180 I loved the flatness of the copper and how close it was to the body in a sculptural way. I wanted to incorporate this in some way with out using jewellery techniques or wire, as I have non as this isn't my field. I found that Glue gun in a water bath gives a similar affect and I tried a mix or painting and spray painting to get a metallic feel. The glue is also light weight and flexible so lends itself nicely to being wrapped around things like a head or neck. One final touch I used was to have a detachable piece to really give a jewellery feel, I did this with old jump rings I had lying around.
I also loved the reusing of the coffee pods in Issue 178. I love to recycle and have many a milk bottle, a great colour that would sit nicely against the gold. Never used the technique of steaming and shaping of plastic but gave it a go.
