HATalk Archive Inspiration

Description

This project inspired me to create something futuristic, using spray paints and folding techniques of the sinamay. Instead of folding it like a concertina, I decided to free form it after I had blocked it, to give it a more natural moonscape scene.

To give that sun hitting the moon feel, I used 2 layers of grey sinamay and a third base layer of yellow to reflect from behind. Then spray painted the silver to bring out the crescents and organic shapes.

Hat Making Materials

  • Yellow and grey sinamay

  • 2 x Textured leatherette orchid flowers
