Description
I am the Milliner for a non profit 501 c 3 named Glamourproject. Our mission is to make a day of beauty and celebration for the residents of homeless shelters throughout California and Massachusetts in the USA.
I was trained and Certified in Millinery Design at the School of Fashion Design in Boston 35 years ago My specialty was to design NOT for the runway or retail but for the "average" woman who was not a celebrity or famous person.
I was the only student in my class to not aim to do fashion millinery for celebrities, etc.
I am a teacher and social worker and deal everyday with the woman searching to just feel good and look better I also design for women and young girls who suffer hair loss through medical management and illness. They prefer to wear nice hats rather then wigs.
Hat Making Materials
- Veiling
- Netting
- Buckram
- Pearls
- Needle and thread
- Wired embroidery thread
- Purple crystals to symbolize loyalty and trust
Hat Making Techniques
- I blocked the white buckram base, then covered it in purple netting and the fave veiling placed to symbolize the shape of a heart I individually sewed each pearl and glued each crystal to form the design element.
- I used a beautiful pin to emphasize the front of the hat I kept it all so very simple to honor simplicity and basic endeavors as the women in the shelters have lost all of their materially and worldly goods and are starting out again from”scratch” using ordinary things. I was not able to show a photo of the inside.
