- Jinsin Saucer Hat Project by Catherine Ellen
Description
I started out designing with the the Jinsin Saucer hat in mind however (as with all my pieces) a different flow emerged. I used silk abaca instead of Jinsin to give the airy and lighter look to the piece. I hadn’t worked with the technique used in this project so I wanted to utilise a new skill to create something for this competition. I decided to make the piece more of a percher hat as with the size and fabric I had chosen I felt looked more balanced and more dynamic. I decided to use the bright yellow veiling as it gives a pop to the hat. With a love of Pom poms and to connect with the small one on the veiling bow I have brought in other pinks to connect with the bias binding around the edge of the hat.
