- Rolled Edge Sinamay Bow Project by Judy Bentinck
Description
I saw the Tutorial on making a bow, by Judy Bentinck and thought how pretty bows are, and what they can be attached to. Bows are brilliant for adding to a gift to make it look extra special.
So the idea came, to make a hat with gift boxes on, so I made three boxes out of cardboard, one larger than the other two. I then covered these in felt to give a softer appearance and also to give me something to stitch to. The boxes were then covered in a lycra fabric to represent a sparkly birthday wrapping paper.
I then created my bows from crinoline and a 'micro' crinoline for the smaller boxes. I wired the bow tails on the larger box to create movement.
My hat base was blocked with sinamay with a gold lurex thread running through it, which ties in well with the sparkly theme. I put a layer of cerise sinamay in between the top and bottom layers, to give a hint of pink.
The pink organza represents tissue paper. I also made a gift tag out of thermoplastic and adhered a gold leather to it and attached this to the large present. I then covered the headband in a sparkly purple ribbon to match in with the theme. A pink organza bow was added to the underneath of the hat to create interest there.
My idea for this piece was to create something fun, pretty, sparkly and very feminine.
