HATalk Competition Entry 2022
Alison Cooper
Description
My HAPPY PLACE is beach combing – where you can lose any sense of time looking for all sorts of things on the shoreline or exploring a rock pool.
My favourite beach in the whole world is Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight, where I spent every summer as a child. It is an unspoilt gem where the tide goes out to reveal dinosaur foot prints in the sea bed and rock pools full of limpets, crabs and sea anemones. The cliff on this Jurassic coast are orange and brown which are being eroded away, sometimes revealing fossils.
I’ve combined various fabrics to create the sea rolling into the beach and the orange cliffs under blue skies with seagulls soaring on the breeze. The beach is scattered with pepples, shells and sea glass .
Underneath the brim of the hat are some shells that you might find on a beach.
The hat is designed to be worn at an angle.
