HATalk Competition Entry 2022
Dawn Perkins
Description
I’ve been learning millinery since Aug 2020. Each month I like to tackle a new project. I’d never heard of Buntal let alone knew what you can do with it. I love 1940s fashion and sculptured my hat on the natural curves that occurred when handling the material, attached it to a base and took my happy place mat to a happy place hat.
Techniques:
- Sew 1cm stitch around outer edge of mat
- Measure 15cm & 17cm towards centre and stitch circle
- Cut between stitches, remove inner circle section
- Follow natural line in weave, sew 1cm stitch either side then cut inbetween
- Apply small amount of PVA glue to all edges prevent fraying
- Turn over edges and press wet cloth then sew in to place
- Curl edges and fix in to shape
- Attach by stitching on to sinamay base
- Add elastic, clips or hairband
Materials:
