Description

SOL

The sun is the bestower of light and life, and happiness is a metric by which we treasure our existence on Earth….the sun therefore, is a component of all Happy Places.

Celebrating the Roman God SOL who bathes and protects us, the creation of a hat seems to be beautifully connected and human.

My simple dream has been to fuse a fabulous image of the sun with a natural desert background only with sun being made in Real Gold.

The unisex shape of SOL was imagined using a huge, untrimmed, re-dyed felt resembling a sand-bowl contour, with a planar, upturned brim and a central head dome. Much as the impression a drop of rain leaves once sand dries.

The graphism of the sun was carefully designed and developed in situ on the rabbit fur felt and in parallel with a new technique of mine using x5 tones of gold leaf until a 3D balance between SOL’s aesthetic and the hat’s composition was found.

The epicentre of the sun is divided into 16 constrained rays distanced from each other by fine gaps to ventilate a quilted pattern of 500 individual pieces of 24ct: Green: Latin: Citron: and Moon gold leaf…. with a radial and random-ness to express strength and beauty. At the outer edges of the crown fingers of light are borne and travel across and along the space of the felt….until their diminishing sparkle ends.

Fusing fine sophistication with our earthbound soul expresses our inner passion and I believe, SOL will tattoo us with its cosmic care and love for years of Happiness, wherever we Place ourselves.
