"Spring Splendor"
Description
My Happy Place is a happy time of year – Spring.
The Splendor of Spring. The snow is melting and leaving in its wake a harvest of vibrant spring flowers. Trees are blossoming and early flowers are pushing through and coming to life. Spring brings soothing scents and vibrant colours, the end of the blistering winter and the transition to the splendor of spring.
A lot of my inspiration originated from looking up through the canopy of the blossom trees at home, admiring the contrast and vibrancy of the blooms against the brightness of the spring sky. I have used curled quills as a sculptural interpretation of branches within the trees and amongst the floral blooms. The silk bows draw everything together into a cascading bouquet.
Pink, blue and white have always been favourite colours of mine and I find these colours bring a sense of calmness, and of course happiness. I have used bright pink for the brilliance of spring and the vibrant contrast against its background. My feather flowers are my take on spring flowers and a nod to cherry blossoms.
The white of the hat is for pureness and freshness of the new season and it also represents both snow and white clouds. The cut outs on the brim of the hat are to symbolize melting snow and the gaps in the snow as the winter dissolves and transitions into spring, revealing new beginnings.
Accents of bright blue in the feather flowers and curled quills represent the clear, bright blue sky on the sunniest of springs days.
My Happy Place is leaving winter behind us and looking forward to the warmer, brighter days and all that it brings and of course enjoying beautiful colourful spring blooms on a warm, sunny day.
