Description
My happy place Is watching and listening to the birds in my garden.
My garden has become a haven for all types of birds. They provide a beautiful daily cacophony of songs and chat between themselves.
They come as individuals and as families. They drink and bath in the bird bath and forage for food from the trees, bushes, grass and flowers.
While on holiday overseas, I noticed that some birds knew instinctively which food and drinks were not being watched. They would then stealthy swoop down, perch themselves on glasses and plates and help themselves to the food and drink. They also had the ability to note when the owner realised what was happening, and would fly off without being shooed away. No matter how much we surveyed the area before laying down our picnic we never saw them until they were devouring our refreshments. All attempts to outwit the birds failed miserably, I am sure they were laughing at us from their camouflage homes. All of which provided endless hours of fun and entertainment for all.
My design is based upon capturing the humour of mischievous magpies, helping themselves to coffee and cake. The distinctive timeless, shape, design and colours, of the cup and saucer, are influenced by the Art Deco period.
