Dawn Birds Evening Hat

Description

As the night turns to day and the day back to night, the time has come once again to celebrate the art of wearing the evening hat. In this spirit, the Dawn Birds evening hat was designed and crafted to celebrate those evening adventures that spin you around the night and get you home just as the dawn birds call.

On its outside, the hat represent the changing night sky- from the black, star-filled hours to the coming of dawn, with its dark blue hues. On its inside, a vibrant lighter blue signals the rising of the sun above the horizon.

The theme of Earth’s sky is not only found in the Dawn Birds colors, but also in its construction: Its crochet stitches of stars and suns are worked in a harmonious continuing round. To start, the crown, with its full star stitches and Preciosa Crystals, represents the starry-night sky, when you first put your evening hat on. As the night swirls you towards dawn, the last round of black star stitches become crocheted with both black and dark blue raffia strands. Next the construction of the sides- the black strand is cut and weaved into the hat, and the sides continue with half sun stitches crocheted with the dark blue strand, which signals dawn has begun. The trim is made from the same raffia utilizing macrame knots, and is a representation of the dawn birds, which start to sing in the dark blue of the dawn. Finally, turning the hat over, the top half of the sun stitch continues with both the dark blue and lighter blue strands for one round. The last round completes the sun stitch with only the lighter blue. The sun is on its way – time to take off your evening hat!
