HATalk Competition Entry 2023
Laurie Osborne
Description
My inspiration for this hat is the effect of climate change on Earth. During 2020-2022, California experienced extreme drought, the worst in recorded history. Parched, cracked earth is a common occurrence in drought-stricken areas. I chose the California Poppy because of its resilience in the face of natural disasters.
I chose to make this hat out of dense felt, as I feel that depicts a solid, earthy feeling. I also decided to make it as sustainable as possible. I used only supplies that I had on hand, and avoided using plastic or synthetic materials.
Despite climate change and recurring natural disasters, I have hope that we can find better solutions for slowing global climate change. Earth is resilient, if we do our part.
