EARTH is inspired by a trip to Worldwide Festival in the south of France in July 2023:

The hot body heat of the crowd, red and blue light reflecting off the sea, the vibrations of hundreds of bodies dancing under the moon and the feeling of joy to be alive on Earth in a single moment.

I imagine revellers feeling the same way in ancient Greece, celebrating on the same Earth under the same moon, thus inspiring my interpretation of the theme in the sense of earthly pleasures.

The festival took place at the Théâtre de la Mer, an ancient fort built in the 1740s which looks out onto the Mediterranean Sea, where live music is played while the sun sets and the moon rises.

This venue inspired the design of the headpiece as I wanted to create a portal with which to look through and into the magic of the amphitheatre. The frenetic wire shapes capture the energy of arms raised skywards on the dancefloor. The embroidered beads and sequins catch the light in the way the moon reflected off sweat on skin. The colours red and blue are mirrored in the disco ball through the haze.
