Description

The element “Earth” inspires in me the following words,
• Support
• Nurture
• Nature
• Femininity
• Hope

To bring these words into a design I researched the languages of colour and flowers.
• Support – Earth supports life – colour Bronze.
• Nurture – Earth helps to nurture life – colour Green.
• Nature – Earth supports and helps nature thrive – colour Seafoam green.
• Femininity – as life giving it is a feminine element – colour Pink.
• Hope – while there is rich earth there is hope for life – colour Green.

For Support, the colour is bronze, Earth supports life. Without Earth plants would not grow, insects would not thrive, small mammals would have little to eat, the cycle of life needs earth.

Earth helps to nurture nature, historically it has been seen as feminine, helping to create new life, and with new life there is always hope.

Taking these colours, I turned my mind to shapes, flowers grow from the Earth, so I looked at the language of flowers and chose Calla Lilies. Calla Lilies represent long life and rebirth a perfect symbol for Earth and the colours I had chosen.

For a foundation shape I chose the organic shape of a tear, I felt three sizes symbolised the past, the largest, the present – the mid-size and small representing the future. I feel earth is diminished by mankind, we need to put more back and take less out. We need to enrich the earth to prolong life.
