Description

She is beauty, She is bounty, She is destructive, She is powerful, She is comforting, She is forgiving, She is eternal, She is sensual. She is a living entity.

She is all colours, textures and fragrances, I tried to include many different ones as my creation allowed.

I used preloved materials for my hat to be sustainable.

My hat making process may seem difficult to understand but the materials seem to communicate to me as they evolve.

The base was created using the block method but once I took it off instead of trimming the excess to create a round base the ends gave me the impression of roots. So I rolled them to create the roots. I covered what was going to be the underneath with brown cloth only for it to end up on the top as the symmetry of it seemed better that way. I hand made the flowers and for a first attempt I was pleased .

Adding rolled sinamay in green for leaves of various sizes gave depth and texture. Yet I felt it needed a bit more hence the feather bundle with the pine cone and dried fruit. This represents the bounty that She gives and the feathered friends that fill her woods and forests. The leaves needed more movement so stitched some together from the front to back.

The watch was the main component for me as I feel that we are all here for such a short time yet Earth is eternal as long as we care for her. The hat was hand stitch in every part except for the Star
Anise I used for the floor of the forest this was glued the fragrance from was my way of representing the aromas that fill the air around us.
