Name of Hat
Droplet

Description

I was thinking of water and its’ many forms.

There are droplets of water on leaves, teardrops, dewdrops and raindrops.
I used a block in the shape of a teardrop as my starting point and then decorated with two small teardrop shapes and finished the hat with a teardrop crystal on the tip of the hat to represent the “dripping” droplet of water.

Water has many colours in nature, the sea is blue, ice is of a bluish tinge hence my choice of a blue base.

Techniques:

  • Fosshape blocked on teardrop shape wooden block.
  • Base wired.
  • Base covered in stretch velvet fabric sewn on to base.
  • Two small fosshape droplets made on small wooden block.
  • Teardrop shapes were covered in velvet fabric and cotton lattice fabric and sewn on.
  • Beads sewn on to these shapes.
  • Shapes then sewn to the hat.
  • Soutage braid sewn around the perimeters of each one of shapes.
  • Lining cut from same fabric as the hat and sewn into the underside.
  • Large teardrop crystal sewn to tip of hat.
  • Elastic sewn into the underside of hat to hold it in place.
