HATalk Competition Entry 2024
Catherine Storm
Description
While walking along our local pier, I could see fish and seaweed ebbing and flowing in the water below. Unfortunately there were also plastic bottles floating in the water.
This inspired me to challenge myself to create a headpiece from plastic bottles washed up on the beach. I wanted to create something that looked like it belonged in the water from something that shouldn’t be in the water.
My headpiece uses plastic from three bottles found on the beach. The design uses cutting and melting to create texture and movement that emulate the tentacles of a sea anemone.
Techniques:
- Drawing a design
- Creating a template
- Cutting
- Melting edges
- Creating a balanced placement of the elements on a foundation
Materials:
Plastic bottles washed up on the beach
Hat elastic
Materials:
Plastic bottles washed up on the beach
