Name of Hat
Miss Tidal Wave

Description

Miss Tidal Wave was born from my endless love of the ocean’s awesome, wild, powerful and hypnotic magic: The sounds and breathtaking sights of waves rising, traveling, and crashing into the shore, has always made it one of my favorite places on earth. It’s Heaven to be seaside.

I even listen to “wave sounds” to go to sleep at night. Waves transport me, like soundtracks in a movie,

I especially wanted to capture, somehow, the majesty and movement of the ocean’s powerful HIGH WAVES! No two exactly alike… Creating MISS TIDAL WAVE was truly a soulful experience!

Techniques:

  • Sinamay: I used, nearly exclusively, a gorgeous shade of medium blue sinamay to braid and sculpt the hat’s base and rising, free-form waves (just like snowflakes, no two alike).
  • Felt: The sculpted sinamay base was hand sewn on to a durable grosgrain edged, lacquered, navy felt.
  • Tulle: Headband is wrapped with navy tulle, hand sewn on to the felt and sinamay base.
  • Faux pampas grass.
