Description

Inspired by the ocean tides, ebb and flo of waves crashing onto a beach and over rocks. The glistening water reflecting light to reveal the opulence of rainbow colours and diamond like stones in the shallows. The colourless substance mirrors a life entity. A source for all living creatures. We can’t live life without it.

My Millinery piece is created like the waves with sinamay. Sequins add reflection like water and sisal fabric to mimic sea foam or coral. Feathers like seaweed for movement.

Techniques:

  • Molded Sinamay for base. Made bias
  • Sewed wire to base then stitched bias around it
  • Covered base with sequence, sewing on strips
  • Arranged Sinamay and pleated with steam. Then sewed to base
  • Stuck tape to edges and added sequins one at a time, some were sewn
  • Lined base and sewed sequins around edges
  • Added Sisal
  • Added band and comb

Materials:

Sinamay – Turquoise, Royal Blue and Green
Sisal Fabric
Millinery Wire
Assortment of Sequins
Feathers
Elastic Band
