Description

Bringing together the elements of water, brass and water movement together , this piece has been inspired by bringing millinery and water together. With both top hat and running water dating back to the 18th century I have based the pouring vessel in brass. The style of hat chosen nods to fresh water that cascades through crevasses and down mountains. The final part of the hat is the movement of the water within the oceans.

Techniques:

  • The top hat was blocked, stiffened, wired and Petersham added to the brim in inside.
  • Metal organza was cut into circle three sizes and stitched together in the middle to create movement.
  • I free formed thermoplastic to create the jug, handed and wired, rhinestone embellished frame. The thermoplastic was then hand painted and embellished with stones.
  • The organza was stitched into place around the wired jug, which was pierced through the top hat and secured into place.

Materials:

Velour capeline
Stiffener
Millinery Wire
Petersham
Metal organza
Cotton thread
Silk
Thermoplastic
Rhinestones
Glue
