Description
My Idea came from my mother passing away suddenly on 3rd September this year. My Mother never looked her age, she always looked 10 years younger. The theme of water and the Greek mythology The Fountain of Youth came to mind. The Fountain of Youth is a mythical spring that restores youth, many cultures all around the world including Greek have stories of this mysterious water/spring that restores youth in anyone who drinks from it or bathes in it. Upon researching, everyone has different thoughts of what this magic water looks like, so I came to the decision since I always believed my mother drank from The Fountain of Youth, I would recreate my own style of The Fountain of Youth and turn it into a wearable piece of art by using a glass bowl that My mother originally bought me to use as a template, which was perfect for the base structure of the fountain.
Techniques:
- Moulded Lightweight clay over a Glass Plate using water to create the shape of the plate design.
- Blocking Buckram over button block pinning to secure in place to allow to dry.
- Covering the buckram by hand stitching millinery wire and fabric to keep its shape.
- Edging by adding trimmings to the base.
- Crushing Dry lightweight clay and adding to wet clay to create a bumpy cement look.
- Spray painting and Acrylic painting to create a cement look
- Pouring resin and using UV light to slowly create the water flow
- Time and patience
