American Royalty Pretty In Pink

While the United States may not have true royalty of its own, certain celebrities deserve a royal title in their own right. Oprah Winfrey, queen of talk shows, and Serena Williams, queen of the tennis courts, were just a few of the members of “American royalty” in attendance at the Royal Wedding earlier this year. We wanted to take a look back at their hats this week.

According to an Instagram post by Oprah, she almost wore a completely different outfit. The night before the big day she realized her dress would photograph too “white” for a wedding so she worked with the Stella McCartney team to put together this ensemble in an instant. The finished outfit was wonderful as always.

Her light pink, lace-trimmed dress, although stunning, took a back seat to her oversized Philip Treacy hat. The big brim hat featured fur and flower trimmings in an array of pink and gray. While fuzzy fur and springtime may seem like an unusual pair, Treacy’s design proved that sometimes the unexpected is the most beautiful.

Serena Williams not only serves heat on the court, but also serves some serious style when it comes to fashion. The all-star athlete chose a simple, figure-hugging pink Versace dress for the occasion. Her hair was tightly styled into a long, braided ponytail, allowing the world to admire her fascinator which consisted of expertly sculpted spiraling sinamayThe shape paralleled the rouching on her dress, forcing the eye to wander to all aspects of the designer outfit.

While Williams went with a whimsical fascinator and Winfrey opted for a bold hat, both of these American icons used these custom pieces as crowns. Pink has never looked better.
