Hat Making Project

Feather Pad

Make your own custom feather mounts with a small scrap of sinamay and a colourful assortment of feathers.

Projects / Feather Pad

Project Overview

Learn how to create unique feather pad mounts with just a small scrap of sinamay and an assortment of feathers.

You will need a mix of stripped coq feathers and soft, fluffy ones, such as short marabou or chandelle. Feather boas are usually made of chandelle feathers stitched in a twisted strip. These feathers can be removed from a boa quite easily, so this could be a good (and cheap) source of feathers for this project.

Once you’ve created your feather pad, you can attach it to directly to a fascinator base or use it to decorate a hat.

This tutorial was written by HATalk Founder Ann Morse-Brown and was originally published in her book, Make Fascinators.
