Projects / How to Attach a Fascinator to a Headband

Project Overview

Headbands are easy to wear and cost next to nothing, so they are a very practical option for securing a fascinator to the head. Keeping a headband on the head is the easy part, though. Figuring out how to keep the fascinator on the headband can be more tricky. If you are just adding a small, lightweight trim, a few stitches reinforced with a dab of clear glue may be sufficient. If you want to make a more durable headpiece that can withstand wear and handling, however, you will need a more robust method of attachment.

In this tutorial, milliner Elena Shvab will show you how to use a sinamay bias strip to attach a fascinator base to a headband. This technique works best with small to medium fascinators. Elena demonstrates with a 10mm wide satin-covered headband but any size will work. Covered headbands are recommended, as it is helpful to have fabric to stitch through.
