Petersham ribbon is a classic choice for trimming brimmed hats. You can use it to make a simple curved hatband, a timeless bow ensemble or a custom embroidered trim. Pleating Petersham is a great way to add an extra dimension to your ribbonwork.
In this tutorial, Martine from Martine Henry Millinery explains how to turn a simple length of ribbon into a beautiful pleated hatband. You will be using 1½” wide Petersham ribbon and will be making repeating sets of 4 pleats.

- Matching thread
- Needle
- Seam gauge or ruler
- Scissors
- Pins/pegs
- Hat for trimming
- Optional: Hot glue gun
