Projects / Shoulder Length Veil

Project Overview

If you’re looking for a two-tiered, shoulder length veil that you can make yourself, this project is for you.

Classic and elegant, this style reminds us of Midge’s wedding veil in the very first episode of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel!

Shoulder Length Veil

Sometimes referred to as a mantilla veil, shoulder length veils are usually worn gathered slightly at the crown. This is recommended for shorter brides or those wishing to heighten the veil to reveal details on the neckline of the dress. When positioned at the back of the head on a bun or chignon, the veil must be gathered in order to get the correct shape. If you’re wearing your hair down, however, it can be worn flat.

Nicely finished with a fluted edge, this bridal veil looks beautiful without any embellishment if you like to keep things simple. On the other hand, you can easily add drama to the design by attaching a bow or some matching silk organza roses.

This shoulder length veil tutorial was written by British bridal headwear expert Denise Innes-Spencer of The British School of Millinery.
