Projects / Sinamay Feather Flower
Project Overview
The best thing about learning a new millinery skill is that it usually leads to even more skills. For instance, if you already know how to make frayed sinamay feathers, you can now take this technique one step further and make a sinamay feather flower!
Sinamay is such a versatile material. It’s perfect for making blocked hats, hand shaped headpieces and all kinds of trimmings. Fraying sinamay creates a really interesting ‘feather-like’ effect. This is a great way to use up sinamay scraps leftover from other projects and also a sustainable and vegan alternative to using real feathers. There are all kinds of ways to use these sinamay faux feathers on your hats and headpieces, including turning them into flowers. In this tutorial, Australian milliner Anél Heyman explains how to do just that.
