Sinamay Rose Fascinator

This tutorial focuses on rolling, shaping and hand sewing sinamay to create a small rosebud fascinator with leaves.

Projects / Sinamay Rose Fascinator

Project Overview

Sinamay is a natural material made from the fibres of the abaca plant, a relative of the banana plant, from which sisal ropes are also made. Grown and harvested in the Phillipines, these fibres are then woven into a flat fabric which is sold in rolls that are approximately 36 inches (90cm) wide. Sinamay comes in a multitude of colours, several varieties and is often sold prestiffened.

A popular millinery material since the 1990s, learning how to make fascinators out of sinamay is a great way develop your millinery skills. This sinamay rose fascinator tutorial focuses on rolling, shaping and hand sewing sinamay.

This tutorial was written by HATalk Founder Ann Morse-Brown and was originally published in her book, Make Fascinators.
